TORUS aims to improve the conceptual model of supercells by revealing relationships between storm-generated boundaries and storm outflow to the generation or amplification of near-surface rotation. This project collects focused observations using new and established instruments to gain insight into thermodynamic and kinematic features at the surface and above. My role in TORUS is operating a truck-mounted Doppler lidar and releasing rapid radiosondes to characterize the near-storm environment. Year one of TORUS data collection is complete! Now we work on synthesizing our data and gearing up for year two!
